Shield. The colors of the shield—blue, gold and green–represent the natural resources and topography of Apalachicola, Florida. The oyster signifies Apalachicola as the “Oyster Capital of the World” and the two pearls denote T-EPF 13 as the second Navy vessel to be named for the city. The fouled anchor symbolizes overcoming challenges and, together with the oyster, represents the resilience of the 2,000+ citizens of Apalachicola. The two parallel black spearheads stand for USNS APALACHICOLA’s 338-foot long aluminum, catamaran style, twin hull. The color Gold is shared by both sea services and is emblematic of excellence.
Crest. The wreath adopts the first-named metal and color from the shield and blazon. The nautical compass rose is a celebrated symbol of the City of Apalachicola and is colored gold to represent maritime authority. The cresting waves are from the seal of the first Joint High Speed Vessel and allude to the strength and speed of the Spearhead-class.
Supporters. The Marine Corps Mameluke and Army Officer swords depict teamwork and cooperation as well as convey the ship’s capability to transport both Marine Corps and Army personnel and their military vehicles and equipment.
Motto. The ship’s motto, “FORTUNE FAVORS THE BOLD,” personifies the spirit and dedication of the crew and officers.
Seal. The coat of arms as blazoned in full color on a white oblong disc within a dark blue designation band, edged with a gold roped border and bearing the name “USNS APALACHICOLA” at the top and “T-EPF 13” at the base, all in gold.
